Our 5th Anniversary

Presley and Kourtney,

Today is your Mommy and Daddy's fifth wedding anniversary. I thought that you would maybe like to read our Love Story one day on the blog.....

Your Daddy and I grew up very different. While I grew up on South Padre Island, TX and spent my days lounging on the beach and pool, your Daddy grew up in the country and spent most of his days with his Grandpa on his farm tending to vegetables.

In 2004, I moved to Corpus Christi and started going to Teaxs A&M Corpus Christi. I lived in these apartments in town named Walnut Ridge and that's where I met one of your Daddy and mine's best friends, Tony. He lived right next door and we would always hang out and drink or go out to the bar down the street named Mulligans. He quickly became one of my good friends and I could tell you countless stories one day of Tony and I's adventures. He was a real ladies man and that always got him into some trouble and I was always there for a good laugh and my apartment was always a great hiding place for him...haha!

Tony and Travis were also good friends although I had never met him before. So Tony started dating this one girl named Ashley and I had just got out of a relationship so Tony told me that he had someone that he knew I would like. I wasn't really ready to meet someone new but thought what the heck? So one day Tony and Travis came over and we had a few drinks and talked. Well, Tony and I talked and your Daddy didn't say not one word! He didn't even really look at me! I shrugged it off and never thought anything of it. Then one day Tony came over and said he had the funniest story to tell me.

He said that there was some kind of confusion about that night since when Tony and Travis got back to his apartment Tony asked Travis what he thought of "that girl Ashlee". Travis said "she's alright but since when does my opinion matter in who you date?" Since Tony had been dating a girl named Ashley he assumed it was me! So we tried it again and it went much better than the first time! At least he talked to me! Haha! Our first date was a party over at professor's house since Travis' friend was housesitting and it was so much fun! Ever since then we have pretty much done everything together!

The early days....

On March 23, 2006 your Daddy and I had been out surfing all day and just got back to our apartment. This is what we usually did everyday after classes or on the weekends. I was still wet in my bathing suit and went to go put my surfboard outside on the patio when I turned around and your Daddy was on one knee proposing! I was so taken back and it was so unexpected that I couldn't stop laughing! I couldn't even stop laughing to say yes! I must've looked like a wet rat and here this guy is proposing? I totally loved it though because it wasn't cheesy, too planned, etc. Just us.

On July 7th, 2007 we got married on South Padre Island and no, we didn't plan that date to be cheesy. Your Daddy was joining the Coast Guard and we decided to get married before he went off as we had no idea where we would be going next. It was one of the best days of my life, and the day was perfect. We got married in the church that I grew up going to and rented a boat for the reception. We watched the sunset and dolphins on the water that I grew up in and Tony even wrote us a poem that I have for you to read one day.

On September 19th, 2010 we found out we were expecting! At our first ultrasound at 6 weeks, I saw a tiny sac, now known today as Presley. And then the doctor moved it a bit and said "wait.....there's two!" Happiest and scariest day of my life.

P&K 6 weeks

P&K 8 weeks

We have been through a lot over the years but nothing beats these past 2 years when you girls were born (birth story).  We were so scared and we wanted you two so very much but had to face the fact that maybe God was going to take you guys back before we even got a chance to fully have and cherish you. It really tested our relationship in so many ways as we had to make some tough decisions. But we got through it and we are so strong in our bond now because of it. We love you two more than words could ever explain and I hope you find this kind of love one day. Here we are today:

  1. Such an awesome story to be able to share with P&K! I'm so glad to have read that. It reminds me that at the end of the day, all the cheesy stuff isn't what matters. What matters is that you two picked each other and God has blessed that mutual choice. He has blessed you through the peaks and the valleys and as you said, you two are stronger as a result.

"Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years."

Happy 5th anniversary and here's to many more for you two!

Also, I have the same dress that P&K are wearing for my Presley from the Children's Place! Love that dress. I had my eye on it for the longest time, then it finally went on sale! Such a gorgeous little outfit.
